- Kerry Frank
It seems like many people started the new year not quite the way we imagined or hoped. For me, it’s been the same. This season has held so much beauty. The holidays, my first grandson, moments that have been deeply joyful. And yet, not perfect.
Like so many others I’ve talked to, I was hit with a virus that truly took me down for the count. Seven days in bed, a record in my world. I’m usually someone who pushes through, even when I’m sick. This time, my body didn’t give me that option.
As I rested, I realized it wasn’t just about being sick.
Life also brought a few unexpected obstacles – the kind that stop you for a moment and ask you to take stock. Not emergencies, not crises – just the kind of things that require thought, prayer, and perspective before reacting.
I want to say this clearly and kindly: I’m okay. I’m not sharing details because they’re private, and because this reflection isn’t about what happened. It’s about how we move through moments like this.
For a few days, I didn’t write or post because I didn’t yet know what the right next step was. I’ve learned over time that speaking too quickly, especially in moments that require wisdom, can do more harm than good.
Still, people often ask me:
How do you get through hard seasons?
What do you do when you don’t know what comes next?
So I decided to write, not to explain my circumstances, but to share something I keep relearning.
Our instinct in moments of uncertainty is often to act fast. To fix. To solve. To push forward. Especially for those of us wired to lead and carry responsibility. But both faith and research remind us that clarity doesn’t come from urgency. It comes from stillness.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Not be productive.
Not have it figured out.
Just be still.
When we’re exhausted or overwhelmed, our thinking narrows. We react instead of discern. And sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is pause long enough to separate fear from truth.
Some seasons don’t ask us to do more.
They ask us to trust more.
To trust that God is at work even when the path isn’t clear. To trust that clarity will come. Not all at once, but one steady step at a time.
I’m still walking through this season, and I’m doing well. I’m grateful, supported, and grounded, just moving thoughtfully instead of quickly.
If you’re in a similar place, tired, unsure, or feeling the weight of decisions, know this: you’re not behind, and you’re not alone.
Sometimes the wisest next step is simply to rest, listen, and let strength return before deciding what comes next.
With Gratitude,
~ Kerry
