From Food Lines to Flight Lines

By Kerry Frank   August 11, 2025

The dream wasn’t to be a tech founder. It was to change my family’s legacy.

I grew up moving frequently, never feeling a sense of stability or security, standing in food lines, watching my parents struggle to get by. I didn’t know what it would look like, but I knew I wanted more for my kids, and for the generations after them.

Before Comply365, I tried everything, different jobs, different ventures, different industries. But the path to purpose isn’t linear. It zigzags through failures, risks, and moments that make no sense until they do.

My breakthrough? I helped create the first commercial aviation app for flight manuals—what’s now known as the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). Some just say, “She helped pilots ditch the giant black bags and fly with tablets.” But the real story is much more complex.

That one bold idea opened doors—not just for me, but for an entire industry.

And we didn’t stop there.

Then came the Amazon Kindle. Our first alpha test flight was with Amazon, Republic airlines, and the FAA to prove there was no electromagnetic interference in the cockpit. That’s why you had to turn your devices off during takeoff back then.

Then the iPad dropped.

We hired a guy who had “played around with iOS” and built a game. I said, “Perfect. You’re hired.” That’s how our first app was born.

From there, I hustled. Demoed to airlines. Took every meeting. Navigated one of the world’s most regulated industries.

But big change takes a tribe. About 10 of us, the OG disruptors, came together across the FAA and aviation community to create the national standard for EFBs. It took years. But when you fight for something that big, the people you fight beside stay with you forever.

That one bold idea opened doors—not just for me, but for an entire industry.

And we didn’t stop there.

Disruption isn’t clean. It’s messy, emotional, and exhausting. But when legacy is on the line, you don’t give up.

With Gratitude,

~Kerry
